Theatre this Week: January 23 – 29

These are the plays to see in Toronto for the week of January 23 – 29, 2017.

The Wedding Party

January 19 - February 11

Crow’s Theatre opened its swanky new location with an energetic, ambitious farce. Six actors play a wide variety of characters, all of whom are guests, staff, or crashers at a fairly eventful wedding. The performers cross the boundaries of age, gender, and even species; Tom Rooney is particularly impressive as a pair of identical twin brothers.

At Streetcar Crowsnest until February 11. For tickets or more information, click here.

Passing Strange

January 24 - February 5

Veteran actor and director Philip Akin, who’s also artistic director of Obsidian Theatre, directs his first musical. Passing Strange is about a young black man who travels the world in search of himself. The show, which fuses punk rock with R&B and soul, won Tony Awards when it debuted in 2008.

At The Opera House until February 5. For tickets or more information, click here.

The Last Wife

January 24 - February 11

Kate Hennig’s play about women’s roles in the court of Henry VIII was a smash hit when it debuted at Stratford in 2015. Now it’s back at Soulpepper, with original stars Maev Beaty and Joseph Ziegler.

At Young Centre for the Performing Arts until February 11. For tickets or more information, click here.
