Welcome to Intermission
Welcome to Intermission, where all great theatre discussions happen. We’re an online theatre arts magazine based in Toronto, bringing the stories of our theatre community to your home, your office, the TTC, or wherever you find yourself.
Intermission wants to tell the stories behind the stories on stage. We’re here for the kinds of people who leave a play wishing they could have a drink with the actors, playwright, director, or stage crew to get a sense of who they are, what they think about, and why they do what they do. We’ve assembled a group of fantastic and creative people, and the first round is on us.
We’re excited about all the great arts writing we get to share. Up now are pieces from Bobby Theodore and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, with insights into how their minds function when they’re burning the midnight oil. Coming soon is a brave article Christine Horne wrote about the week she was on the cover of NOW Magazine but couldn’t pay her rent. We’ll have a recurring segment from the funny and perceptive Courtney Ch’ng Lancaster about how local artists balance parenting with their performing arts careers. And we have great writing from Canadian artists doing work abroad: Carly Street got tantalizingly close to Clive Owen when she understudied on Broadway and Alan Dilworth experienced Greece’s financial meltdown firsthand when he directed This Is War in Athens. Some more names you’ll hear from down the line: Allan Hawco, Rick Roberts, Akosua Amo-Adem, and John Harvey and Leonard McHardy, the heroes who ran Toronto’s TheatreBooks bookstore for thirty-nine years.
We also want to hear from you. Feel free to join the conversation: get in touch, comment on articles, let us know what you like and what you want to see more of.
Thanks for stopping by.
