Discord and Din Theatre have announced their cast for Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again!

Written by Alice Birch, Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. is a fiery feminist text that examines and tears apart language, structures, and ideas that keep women trapped within a patriarchal system. Discord and Din offer a fresh, new perspective on this bold, wildly experimental, and internationally celebrated play, which is a ferocious and electrifying call to action for a new feminism. One that redefines the way we think about womanhood in the 21st century. In this play, the artists don’t have specifically assigned roles, as everyone will play multiple characters.

The play is directed by Jennifer Tarver, stage managed by Lucy McPhee, with set and costume design by Andjelija Djuric, choreographed by Susanna Hood, lighting design by Andre Du Toit, and sound design by Thomas Ryder Payne. Produced by Jenna Harris and Annie Clarke with production management by Adrien Whan and publicity by Victoria Laberge.

The Cast:

  • Clare Coulter (Escaped Alone, Soulpepper/Necessary Angel)
  • Teiya Kasahara (The Queen in Me, Amplified Opera/Theatre Gargantua)
  • Jenna Harris (Lela & Co., Discord and Din Theatre)
  • Jeff Meadows (August: Osage County, Soulpepper Theatre Company)
  • Tony Ofori (Copy That, Tarragon Theatre)
  • Arlen Aguayo Stewart (Human Animals, ARC)

Previews for Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. on April 12. Opening Night is April 16. The play is produced by Discord and Din Theatre and will be at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. For more information, click here.

Discord and Din Theatre: Discord and Din produces Canadian and International plays. The productions are outside-the-box, created to push boundaries of traditional narratives and create those that are more feminist, political, and activist that focus on stories and voices often excluded from the mainstream.

The cast of Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. answer the following question:

What are you revolting against today?

Arlen Aguayo Stewart

"In this moment, I am revolting in solidarity with my people in Chile against a government with massive economic disparity. I am also in solidarity with all the movements around the world have woken up, especially indigenous resistance that has been awake for a looooong time that doesn't get the same media coverage or support but keep fighting courageously every.single.day."

Tony Ofori

"I am revolting against muting who I am so I'm more palatable to people around me. I'm revolting against muting myself expression through storytelling, music, fashion and jewelry. Humble for my accomplishments when I need to be but forever proud of how far I've come and all that I've achieved."

Teiya Kasahara

"Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ignorance, climate-change deniers."

Clare Coulter

"I am revolting against nothing, and everything."

Jenna Harris

"Today, I'm working to revolt against what feels to me like a lack of kindness in the world. And at the core of this, a dearth of awareness of the feelings of others. And I fully include myself in this - when I don't go out of my way to do something kind for someone (even a very small thing) because I don't think about it, or more honestly, am lazy and/or caught up in my own world or needs at that moment in time."

Jeff Meadows

"Personally, at the moment… I'm revolting against the tyranny of being the prisoner of my own thoughts. I am not my thoughts… And I shall revolt!"
