This month, New Zealand’s Indian Ink Theatre Company brings its semi-improvised comedy Mrs Krishnan’s Party to Meridian Arts Centre in North York.

Presented by TO Live, Mrs Krishnan’s Party is a celebration of the southern Indian harvest festival of Onam, and set in the backroom of a convenience store owned by the titular Mrs. Krishnan.

The actors juggle cooking, music, and guests as food simmers on the stove and laughter abounds. Beyond its fun exterior, the show prompts audiences to consider life’s purpose, the true meaning of family, and how to grapple with change.

Mrs Krishnan’s Party is written by Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis, co-founders of internationally lauded theatre company Indian Ink. Lewis directs, while Rajan stars opposite Kalyani Nagarajan.

Rounding out the show’s creative team are dramaturg Murray Edmond, set designer John Verryt, costume designer Fiona Nichols, lighting designer Jane Hakaraia, and sound designer Liam Kelly.

Mrs Krishnan’s Party runs at Meridian Arts Centre from March 13 to 24. Tickets are available here.
