Ravi Jain Chats with Dawn Jani Birley

As a Deaf actress, many of the roles Dawn Jani Birley gets offered are for characters specifically written as Deaf. In Theatre Why Not’s production of Prince Hamlet, she plays Horatio, whose deafness is a part of the story but not a defining characteristic. She sat down with the show’s director, Ravi Jain, to talk about rehearsing the play, translating Shakespeare into poetic ASL, and why she left Canada for Finland.
